Hey, hey! It’s Andrea Wenburg and welcome to my Voice Studio where we are playing with the idea that maybe building a voice of influence is quite a bit like building a singing voice and developing that.
So today, we’re going to talk about something that Terry Weaver said in Episode #6 “Dare to live outside the fences.” And Terry had lots of challenges for us when it comes to having a dream and going after those dreams and not sitting on them and putting them on some bucket list but really just turning them into something that we now. And I love that because I am also somebody who really cares about turning your dreams into reality or your ideas into reality.
So if you have an idea, if you have a burden on your heart for something that you’re seeing in the world or you have an idea, a way to meet the need of somebody around you or a problem that you can solve. When you have something like that inside of you but you sit on it, it’s kind of sad to me and I know how hard it can be to have it sort of sitting inside of you eating away, because I have certainly felt that way before and that’s why I’m doing a podcast now, that’s why I wrote a book, and that’s why I wrote a blog in the first place three years ago.
But the hard thing when you have those dreams, when you have something inside of you that you know you can offer is that you really need people to support you. This is what I want to suggest for you today. So I want to encourage you to find people in your life that are #1 – they’re afraid of your dreams. They’re not intimidated by them. They don’t look at you and say, “Wow, I can’t believe that you’ll do something like that.” You know, even if your blog post just reaches one person that’s meaningful.
While that is true, most likely those people are trying to make themselves feel better about the fact that they’re not doing what you’re doing. So they’re not the kind of people that are going to really push you and challenge you to reach for your potential and to really make that difference, to meet that need that you know you could meet.
So look for somebody who is not afraid of your dreams. Second of all, look for somebody who is also ambitious. So that doesn’t mean that they have to be doing the same thing that you’re doing. They don’t need to be in the same market that you’re in or if you’re in business and they’re in ministry or they’re perhaps a stay-at-home mom but they’re really ambitious with the way that they offer themselves in the world. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing, it’s the motivation and the ambition behind it.
So if you can find people around you who are ambitious, not so that they can just accumulate lots of successes and that sort of thing. I’m not talking about that kind of thing, I’m talking about people who are going for it in life whatever it might be. So when you find those people, whether they’d be friends or family or maybe even hiring a coach or something like that or mastermind, when you’ve got those people around you, find a way to meet with them on a regular bases because you need their voices in order to be able to fuel and help fuel and encourage you as you are working towards your goals.
And when I say goals, I mean the dreams that you have to make a difference whatever difference that might be. I am so grateful for the people in my life who encouraged me and challenged me and celebrate the things that I’m doing and I can do that for them in return. It means so much to know that you have people that have your back, that are going to celebrate your wins, and that are going to be there for you when you feel like a failure. Those people mean so much but they need to be not intimidated by your dreams or by your goals and they need to be people who are also ambitious.
It doesn’t have to be somebody that’s doing the exact same thing that you’re doing and it doesn’t have to be the same scale. But even if you’re doing something out in the world, maybe trying to gain a voice of influence on a grand scale, even if it’s somebody that is doing that on local level as long as it’s somebody who is ambitious and understands that about you that is going to make a huge difference for you when it comes to finding and maintaining that relationship. That’s going to be super supportive and like a life-giving force for you in the future and for your message.
